Calls Mount for the Release of Beehive Radio Station Owner
A trio of international NGOs representing lawyers and journalists added their voice last week to the mounting calls for the government to release radio station owner Mam Sonando and drop all charges against him “immediately and unconditionally.” Authorities arrested Mr. Sonando, owner of the independent Beehive Radio, on July 15 and charged him on four counts for inciting a secessionist movement in Kratie province, charges his supporters and several NGOs deny. … Mr. Sonando’s lawyer, Cambodia Defenders Project executive director Sok Sam Oeun, said he was still waiting for a reply to a bail request he filed with the Municipal Court on July 31.
